Even though it’s later into January, I wanted to celebrate this year by marking off my first cast on. I’ve waited till the new year to cast this too.

So my eldest son was looking back at some of the sweaters that I made him. One sweater he always said was favorite. It was my very first Aran sweater I made for him when he was 8.

I remembered being very particular with the yarn and very careful with the knitting pattern. I believe it was the very first time I not only worked a cable, but did the Bramble (Trinity) stitch as well.

This year, I’ve decided to try my hand at this pattern once again. I’ve come a long way from when I first started. I now can design my own patterns, make up the instructions, and include the stitch pattern. In the future it would be good to chart it out, but this works for me right now.

My oldest son picked a Lionbrand pound of love yarn, in a beautiful bluish color—Cascade. Also because he’s a growing boy I decided to make this sweater a drop shoulder (one of my favorite styles),but I also managed to give him a 5” ease.

I’m just in the beginning of making his sweater, but this year I feel more focused and determined on what to do. Since this is a pattern that I have done once before, it just feels comfortable. If that makes any sense.

I’ve had a minor setback with catching a cold, but I think I’m good to go again. Usually, I would start in the body and then work the sleeves, this time I’m working on the sleeves first, then the body. I may do the best part (the front) last. Gives me something to look forward to. Let’s see how Ming it takes me to complete this, before I get the itching to cast on something new.
