I’ve had an abundant amount of energy lately that propels me to make something—anything. It’s like the dopamine monster 👹 attacks and now you’re doing what you can while you have the surge of happy energy. I’ve been feeling down and out for the past few weeks, maybe the weather had something to do with it, but with the sun shining and it getting warmer than usual for the end of February, I’m feeling positive to make some changes.
Not too long ago, like in the very beginning of my knitting journey, I was trying out different shapes with shawls. I made this cute Step it Up Shawl in orange that I had no idea how to wear. This shawl is best described as a boomerang shawl with a saw tooth edge. Unfortunately, I ended up giving it away. Well, I’ve been much better at wearing shawls and I’ve been missing the shape and style of this one.
I had a Caron cake hat and left over yarn from a previous project. I unraveled that project, and decided I needed a simple one skin project to complete. I actually wasn’t going to make this shawl, but this kept coming to mind when I thought of it. I put it off for a year trying to rack my brain for this yarn to become something else. However the yarn spoke out and demanded that it become a shawl, and I’m so glad that I listened to it.

I’m still in the throes of finishing it but there is not much left as of now. I’m actually glad for the striping effect too cause this shawl would have been boring in a solid color (even though I’m really loving that deep saturated blue).
What drew me into this shawl is the shape. I’ve knitted boomerang shawls before, but this was my first one. It was an unconventional style for me, but I really liked different look of this. I guess what strikes me is that each yarn and each color has its own personality.
What really changed my mind on shawls is how I decide to wear them. For some strange reason, the shawls always made my outfits feel more dressier than I actually was. My clothing style was very casual, but the minute I put a shawl on it just upgraded my wardrobe like crazy. I’ve always looked reserved, but this really puts me in another category 😂.
However, I don’t know if it has anything with being in my 40s or not just caring anymore, but I like looking upgraded in my wardrobe. I am put together, and therefore I’m taken more seriously. I am reserved in nature, but that’s because of who I am. Now that I’m totally into shawls, I have my own collection of shawl pins to keep this bad boy in place. So I’m looking forward to it.
I have more projects to work on that most likely include more shawls. For the past several months, my brain would only allow me to work with simple projects, but I think that’s changing now. I’m looking forward to new projects and new skills to unlock.
