This year, I promised myself that I am going to learn a new skill. I’m a knitting gal, surly I am, but I’m also not blind! I first saw Tunisian Crochet on TLY yarn on Youtube, and it’s something I started to fall in love with it. I’m not going to lie, I’ve had a bit falling out with crochet lately. I mean like it, but I also realize that I’m a uniform kindal gal, and that’s why I’ve been gravitating towards knit stitches. It just brings out the organizer within me–harmonious stitches. Or it’s just the season 🤷‍♀️

It sounds silly I know, but we all gravitate to what draws us in. I’m not hating on the other yarn crafts, since crochet led me down this hole, I’m more aware of what it is that I like. Anywhooo, I saw Tunisian Crochet and between knitting up my yarn stash, I also wanted the option to crochet (Tunisian Crochet) some of it down. I’m already in love with the stitches that I see, and between it and knitting, I know my hands are going to be full.

For this first project of mine, I’m working with a simple stitch. It’s just to get my fingers and toes wet while I work, and I get to practice on this very lovely scrubby yarn.

It starts off the same as crochet where you make chains to start your project, but unlike crochet and more like knitting, you take those chains and pick up stitches 🤯 . All this time I’ve put off Tunisian crocheting things because I thought it was too difficult and it’s honestly the best hybrid that I needed.

Okay, being honest I’ve tried this before in the past.

And I didn’t like what I was looking at. When I tell you the yarn makes all the difference. I did happen to retry the project with a different color yarn and it made all the difference! While the green is okay, the yellow is the color that I needed. But now you’re wondering, what do I need to do this simple stitch. To get started, you don’t even need any new tools if you crochet, since you’re just practicing the motions.

What you’ll need….
  • Tunisian crochet hook (or any crochet hook will do)
  • Yarn for the appropriate size hook that you have
  • Yarn cutter or scissors.
  • A good attitude 😂!

Like I said in the video, I don’t know if it’s me, or distressed yarn but I really do love the way this stitch came out. Granted, it’s such a small sample, but I know this little stitch has man plans!

So what do you think, are you interested in working up a Simple Stitch?
