I have so many plans for this year. I’m excited, and focused, and determined to get through my plans. Before the last year was ended, I had listed out a few things that I wanted to accomplish, and I already starting making a dent into it. Like so many of you, I also want to get my stash under control. I had so many ideas to knit sweaters over the years but for some reason I was plagued with the idea that it’s not good enough.
This is coming from a person who looks at “difficult” knit, and says to herself, “well if it was made before I can make it now.” That mind set got me to conquer cables, laces, knitting in different shapes, and not shying away from things that look really good. Over the years, I can come to see what it is that I really like to knit. Yes, I can attempt to knit the complicated things, but honestly my hear sings the most when I knit simple patterns. I don’t know what it is, but I’m just a simple person, that most patterns just look over done on me. So, I tend to gravitate to classic styles. Now, don’t get me wrong but there are so many bright colors and extravagant patterns out there. While they look nice, they are simply not my style.
For 2025 I have specific plans for my knitting and my stash, I maybe over reaching on them, but it’s a good idea to write these things down.
Work Down The Stash
Simple enough right? Well not exactly, I just had to talk myself off a cliff because a yarn store is currently selling yarns (that I like) at $5 a skien as I write this. However, I am determined to actually make a dent on it. This is my plan on tackling my crazy stash.
- Utilizing my knitting machine: For Christmas, Santa had gifted me a circular knitting machine. So far, I have been knitting scarves for the family using granny square yarn in their favorite colors. I wouldn’t consider these to be a cast on because it’s not my needles. However, I have been working on these and I have been working down the holiday yarn that I bought just for this project. I have other yarn that I’m looking at to use with this machine, but I know I’m going to pick yarn that does all the work, so a simple stitch is going to work.
- Learn Tunisian Crochet: I have one Tunisian Crochet hook–just one, and I have been talking about acquiring more. I would like to have a few options under my belt when it comes down to crafting, and learning this technique will help me get through my yarn smoother.
- Crochet More Pieces: While crochet has been my first love, it’s not my go-to. I tend to have a hard time grabbing my hooks vs my needles. I think it comes down to preference, but I really do love some of the crochet stitches. As with knitting, I’m drawn to simple stitches that are classics and I’m looking to sharing some of that with you.

Use Up Yarn That Was Wound Up
In the past several years, I have caked up yarns with the hope to work with them, but something comes up and I end up not using it. Now, I have several bags that are full of caked yarn ready to go, and no plan to actually do them. Many of these projects began as loosely ideas, but something always came before I started the project. So, I have a determination to use up the yarn that caked up and finally put into a project that I wanted.
Use a Project Planner
Over the years, I learned why I am so disorganized, and it’s because I haven’t planned out my projects accordingly. I already know I’m not an online planner. I have things lined up ready to go, but my desire to knit them have been low. So instead I’m going to seriously consider writing out my plans for this year. Right now they are all in my head, but I already have the first two projects planned out, and several fighting for third place.
Sweater planning
I think this is my year for sweater and tops. While im no stranger to making sweaters, I’m going to try to work out the different sweater designs from top to bottom, and let to right. I’m really looking to work down my stash, and I really want to try to experiment with different sweater designs and constructions.
I purchased a book not too long ago, that help build my confidence in using my own measurements in sweater construction, and this year I think is going to be my year.
Maybe I’m over optimistic about this year or I’m still under the January allusion, but I’m really looking forward to having a plan and working down my stash. I would like to eventually work with natural fiber yarns other than cotton, but that will take me time to get other kind of yarns. In the meantime, I can window shop with my wallet in the other room and work on my plans.
Do you have any knitting ambitions this year?
